Arun Swamy

Bio

Arun Swamy is Professor of Political Science at the University of Guam. Swamy is a prominent scholar with research expertise spanning democracy in developing countries, ethnicity, nationalism, political economy and corruption. Swamy's notable contributions to the field include a dissertation on populist appeals in Indian politics, later extended to Asian politics. Swamy's special contribution to the study of populism has been the analysis of what he has termed 'sandwich coalitions', an alliance of elites with marginalised groups against the middle.
