The G20 Summit in Cannes probably made its most important contribution to global financial stability and economic growth before it even commenced.

As the uneven global economic recovery continues, with the emerging economies growing at roughly three times the pace of advanced economies, comprehensive reform of the principal institutions through which global economic governance is enacted becomes ever more urgent.

With emerging economies already accounting for about half of the global economy and the vast majority of current and future global economic growth, securing an adequate voice for this traditionally underrepresented group in global economic governance must be a priority. Read more…

Ohio’s outsourcing ban – an ominous canary

Ohio recently implemented a ban on the outsourcing of state government IT and back-office projects to offshore locations. This is a worrying election season reminder of the precarious political support free trade and global engagement currently enjoys in an America plagued by low growth and high unemployment.

Anti-outsourcing sentiment at the level of the US states is nothing new, with hundreds of similar legislative proposals put forward in state capitals after 2003. Read more…
