James Curran

Bio

James Curran is International Editor at the Australian Financial Review and Professor of Modern History at Sydney University. Curran serves on DFAT’s Historical Documents Advisory Committee and earlier in his career worked as a policy advisor in PM&C from 2002–05, then as a Senior Analyst in the Office of National Assessments. Curran has written for major US foreign policy journals and drafted policy briefs for prominent think tanks. He received his PhD in History from the University of Sydney in 2001 and is a former Fulbright Scholar at Georgetown University and Chair of Australian History at University College Dublin. His books include Australia’s China Odyssey, Unholy Fury: Whitlam and Nixon at War, Curtin’s Empire and The Power of Speech: Australian Prime Ministers Defining the National Image.
